<networking, protocol, security> ("IP Secure"?) A protocol that provides security for transmission of sensitive information over unprotected networks such as the Internet.

IPsec acts at the network layer, protecting and authenticating IP packets between participating devices ("peers"), such as Cisco {routers}.
