This guide is for everyone, not just people with problems. The tools described here — deposit limits, time limits, and cool-off periods — are healthy practices for all casino players. Setting them up when you first register takes 2 minutes and protects you in moments of impulse.

Warning Signs of Problem Gambling

Problem gambling develops gradually. Most people don't realize they have a problem until it has already caused significant financial, relationship, or mental health harm. These are the early warning signs to watch for in yourself:

Financial warning signs

  • Gambling with money needed for bills, food, or rent
  • Borrowing money to gamble or cover gambling losses
  • Chasing losses — betting more to recover what you lost
  • Hiding gambling spending from family

Behavioral warning signs

  • Unable to stop gambling even when you want to
  • Gambling to escape stress, anxiety, or depression
  • Neglecting work, family, or social obligations
  • Feeling restless or irritable when not gambling

If you recognize three or more of these signs in yourself, we strongly encourage you to use the self-exclusion tool at your casino immediately and speak with a mental health professional.

Responsible Gambling Tools at Licensed Casinos

All casinos listed on elook.org are required (by their license) to offer these tools. They are available in your account settings.

💰 Deposit Limits

Set a maximum amount you can deposit per day, week, or month. Once set, the limit cannot be increased immediately — increases require a 24–72 hour cooling-off period. This protects you from impulsive decisions. Where to set it: Account Settings → Responsible Gambling → Deposit Limits.

⏱️ Session Time Limits

Set a maximum time you can spend in one gambling session. When the time is up, you receive a notification or are automatically logged out. This prevents the "just one more" pattern that leads to extended sessions.

❄️ Cooling-Off Period (Temporary Break)

Temporarily suspend your account for 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. During this period you cannot deposit or play. Your account balance is preserved. This is useful if you feel you are gambling too much but don't want permanent self-exclusion.

🚫 Self-Exclusion (Permanent)

Permanently close your account. Once self-excluded, you cannot reopen the account or create a new one at the same casino. Your remaining balance is returned to you. Licensed casinos must honor this request immediately. Contact the casino's live chat and state: "I want to permanently self-exclude." This is the right choice if gambling is causing you harm.

Golden Rules for Safe Gambling

Set a budget before you start — and stick to it

Decide the maximum amount you are willing to lose today before you open the casino. This is your entertainment budget. When it's gone, stop. Treat it the same as the cost of a cinema ticket — money spent on entertainment, not expected back.

Never chase losses

The most common path to problem gambling: you lose, you bet more to recover, you lose more. The expected return of any casino game is below 100% — mathematically, chasing losses always makes the situation worse. If you've hit your loss limit, stop completely.

Never gamble when upset, stressed, or under the influence

Emotional states impair judgment and lead to reckless bets. Gambling should be entertainment, not an escape from real-world problems. If you are stressed or upset, close the casino app and return another time.

Treat winnings as a bonus, not income

Casino winnings are random, not reliable income. If you win, consider withdrawing a portion rather than reinvesting everything. No one has ever "earned" a living from casino gambling long-term.

Take regular breaks

Set a timer for 30–60 minutes. When it goes off, take a 10-minute break away from the screen. This prevents the trance-like state that extended gaming sessions can induce, which often leads to poor decisions.
